‘Shocked and saddened’ over the shooting of Shasta Lake resident

Shasta County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a resident of a Lake Tahoe home after he reportedly fired a weapon into a vehicle that was blocking a highway in the parking lot, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 2:30 p.m.

Friday at the home in the 1100 block of Lake Taho Drive.

Deputies say that’s when they found 30-year-old Shasta Lane Johnson, who was unarmed, with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Johnson was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, according to Sheriff Dave Ward.

He was also the subject of a separate incident in the area where deputies say he fired a rifle at a vehicle and then tried to run away.

The Sheriff’s Office said Johnson has a history of mental illness.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
